"racing part, not suitable for highway use" I guess this is a get out clause when it doesn't work ...

Those Volvos have poor original timing cover protection. There is major risk if serpentine belt snapped it can go to the under the timing cover and broke the engine. |

137 Euros will buy a couple or three new v-belts, so is it not better just to change them when they are due (or before)?

Good God, and there's me driven 3 of them to over half a million combined miles without one, relying only on genuine parts and diligent maintenance. Im clearly a maniac!

The force when a belt snaps is huge. I can’t see how that metal will do anything & it hasn’t been proven to work either. If it did, I’m sure Volvo would have come up with a solution via recall.

My car has been serviced religiously with genuine Volvo parts. The 7 month old aux belt frayed, the timing belt is damaged but intact. I'm in the process of removing the rocker cover to inspect for damage. Regular servicing does NOT guarantee against this flaw in the timing belt cover design.
If this is still available, I'll buy one, as I feel it's reasonable to assume that it'll help prevent any small FOD in future. Are they still available? |
