Default Cooling fan activation temperature

Hello

For a 1999 Model Year 2000 S40 with the B4164S2 (RN engine VVT):

Does this engine have only one engine coolant temperature sensor (near the thermostat housing?). Or is there a fan switch on the radiator too? I think it's probably the latter with the engine ECU also controlling the fan activation. If anyone knows for sure it would be great to confirm this.

What temperature does the radiator fan start on these cars?

This post on Matthews Volvo is about 850s and S/V70s but I wondered if the same changes applied on the MY2000 / from Aug 1999 S/V40s too?

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...4895b&start=10

i.e. there's a shift from the fan starting at 102C (94-98 850-S/V70s) to it being 107C for the 99-2000 S/V70s.

If anyone has any info on the correct fan activation temps for a 1999 MY2000 S/V40 with the B4164S2 then that would be great.

As further background info in case useful to anyone, the temp gauge in this car moves from the rest position to the minimum line when the ignition goes on. It then moves from here only once the coolant reaches 42C. The gauge reaches the halfway / 3 o'clock position on this car's instrument cluster when the coolant gets to 80 deg C. On tests so far, it doesn't move from this position even when the coolant gets to 95C

Thanks

As far as i can tell from the wiring diagrams, there is only the one engine temperature sensor near to the thermostat housing, which is connected to the ecu. The relays for the fan are also connected to the ecu. so it would appear that this sensor controls the fan & also determines the gauge reading via the ecu ?
As far as i can tell, the fan on my 1.8 (1783cc P2) has only ever cut in when the car is stationary on hot days, or when the air con is turned on ? My gauge as only ever gone up to half way when up to temperature. I've changed the thermostat a few times,& now have the hottest available thermostat, so i guess this is how it should be ?
