All of the auto FWD 2.0 VEA cars are 8 speed iirc. XC60 at least the xc70 VEA cars I think are 6 speed.....

Seems daft to use it on a 6k a year duty if your doing 30k then it should be fine dpf wise etc, and the extra economy of the fwd will be a bigger factor, (winter tyres make a big difference in winter if that’s a concern) could be advantageous. My missus does around 6k a year I do around 18k (have done up to 40 a year in the past but working from home helps keep it down) we were going to switch in a couple of years, but her commute is suited to petrol/elect and my usage long trips not daily and towing means diesel is still better overall for me.

One advantage of a slightly older car 13/14 is Vida is available (diagnostic package ) relatively affordably later cars not so yet. This may not be any consequence if your not planning on doing your own maintenace and find a good local specialist with the kit.

As for a comfortable mile muncher I regularly do 200+ miles a trip and find it great but look for a car with adaptive cruise and blis as it isn’t standard but was part of a pack I think. The premium audio package is nice but not a must have and most cars will have nav etc on a decent spec oddly thou heating steering wheel wasn’t part of the winter pack and active bending xenon lights may be better avoided long term as replacement is expensive!

Dealer serving isn’t necessarily too bad especially if get the roadside cover and software updates but for general brakes tyres etc go elsewhere but use genuine parts is the advice (which I will follow out of warranty)

As for it being a “proper” 4wd.......... not so sure about that..... no diff locks, no low range, no HDC......

one advantage of the VEA D4 is it’s one of the very few euro 6 engines that doesn’t require ad blue........
My D4 FWD used to average 42 mpg on my commute, my current D5 AWD returns 37 on the same journey - but probably a third of that gap or more is down to my D4 being a manual gearbox, current D5 is auto.

“proper” 4x4 was probably not the most appropriate description for me to use, they are clearly not as rugged as a Defender but with Haldex and Traction control the lack off diff locks is partially negated, lack of low range is only an issue when towing very big weights and the AWD models do have hill descent... on a muddy field or in snow they are more capable than say a old Defender or HiLux with traction control or haldex.

Good point on the ad blu...

Hi, selling my 2015 XC60 (8 Speed auto FWD) SE-LUX in the New Year as I have a new XC40 on order. It’s covered 83k and has been a fantastic car. I’ve had it since new. Also has many extra’s. If anyone is interest in further details please PM me. It’s an absolute pristine, genuine car.

Independent I would highly recommend is: Sheffield & Meredith in central Leicester; they are about as good as it gets.
