Default Potential New Owner Advice

Hi All,

I wanted to introduce myself and hopefully gain some advice about buying my first Volvo.

The other half brought home an S60 D4 R-Design on a 14 plate as its a company pool car, and she was raving about it (its not often we both like the same car!)

I had a sit in it and loved it, it had plenty of gadgets and was very comfortable, plus she took me for a spin in it

I'm looking to spend £8-10k on one so are there any common faults/things to look out for?

Thank you!

I recently bought a 64 R-Design V60.

The VEA D4 engine has had a few issues with the EGR valve, EGR cooler and associated software so check that this has been done, if possible. Although Volvo do seem to be pretty good about sorting out problems arising with this issue. I think the D3 has the same problems.

The R-Design Ixion wheels seem very vulnerable to kerbing. Mine are in a rough state, same as with many other examples I looked at when buying.

Like mine, I think that most of these come without a spare wheel and instead have a bottle if goo and an inflator. I've just bought and retro-fitted a space saver, but a factory-fitted one would be preferable.

Your budget is pushing it! I paid over £10k for mine as an ex-leasehire at auction on 6#k miles. But if you go older you'll slip into pre-facelift territory and miss out on things like improved sat nav, better dash, DAB radio etc.

These are really great cars!

Thanks Zebster

Yea i did notice that I need a later model to get the electronic dash etc.

I would spend a bit more for the right car and by the sound of what you're saying, that would be a good thing and yes, I don't think I've seen one without at least one scratch on the wheels! shame because that's my bug bear

Happy hunting! There's certainly a lot of V60s about, but maybe not so many S60s?
