Multiple battery +ve feeds for boot accessories - advice please!
I want add a couple (or three) mod cons to the boot of my 940S saloon. These are; a salvaged power antenna, an extra 12V socket (to power a coolbox), and I'm installing a nice stereo system with a 2x35W and 2x75W amplifier in the boot.
I know how to wire the amps, they've seen action in a couple of my previous cars. The power antenna has (I believe) a battery +ve, an ignition +ve (off the stereo head unit) and a ground - just a matter of finding out which is which as two wires are the same colour! I will purchase an after-market extra 12V socket - hopefully it will come with fitting instructions. I was wondering, all this items will no doubt require their own +ve battery feeds and in-line fuses - which amounts to a fair bit of cable and is all getting a bit messy. Is it safe (and indeed sensible) to have one suitably rated feed running to the boot that I could then split for each item via a connector block? If it is, could anyone suggest how many amps the feed cable should be to be able to handle and what rating the in-line fuse should be? I appreciate if that fuse blows, I'll loose the antenna, the coolbox and the amplfiers but I can live with that as I can't see it happening very often... :o Thanks, Andy |

RE: Multiple battery +ve feeds for boot accessories - advice please!
I would run a 4 gauge power cable down car with a 80amp fuse under bonnet that should be more than enough to power everything you mention above.
I have a 4 gauge power cable running down mine with a split charge relay in boot that then splits to 2 more batteries that are under boot floor in spare wheel well. The relay is controlled by a switch in front of car and comes in useful at car shows etc when i have sound system on and don't want to have engine running, i don't have to worry about battery under bonnet going flat. |
