If you say to people "I'm buying a Volvo" what will their reaction be? Time for retirement! Not that I care, as I view Volvo as being understated in quality and leaders in comfort/safety (pre ford era).

I view BMW/Mercedes/Jaguar in a similar class then you have Lexus/Volvo who appeal to buyers for different reasons, comfort/luxury/safety.

Then you have Ford!

Speaking to a friend today who has a 3 yr old Audi Q5 and is thinking of a change; I suggested taking a look at the XC90*; the reply - with a pained look, I don't want a Volvo !

Jon.

*I had one on loan from Volvo for a couple of weeks.

A couple of years ago, I was in the market for a cheap second hand, large, comfortable saloon to put big miles on (I'm a sales rep)

I bought a 2009 Volvo S80 D5 Geartronic Executive for €9000!!!!

That's a lot of luxury for €9000.

It is as plush a place to sit as almost any car I have been in and I have a few mates in the motor trade, so have been in a lot of plush cars.

It would have to be at least a very well specced E Class to get me out of my Volvo and into a Merc.

The Dynaudio system alone is worth it's weight in Gold (just an expression), air conditioned/message seats, it has a fridge and I've just recently found out that the engine mounts are hooked up to the vacuum system.

A Mondeo it aint !!!!!

I dont know if anyone has been to Dubai recently but the first thing I noticed appart from the heat is that they now use Volvo as their premium taxi service. So I think thats pretty good ground to say Volvo are now a premium brand.

I was born / grew up in Dubai and go back every now and then, so I definitely know the cars they use and they are all about luxury. Previously they only used to be Mercs or Lexus. Now when you get there ... you will see a sea of black Volvo estates ... they all look pretty dam nice.

So yes I think Volvo are a premium brand now
