I've just joined the XC90 owners club. Bought an D5 se Lux on an 08 with 102k. Was in ok condition, though does need new cam belt and rear disc and pads along with 4 new tyres.

I went for budget 235/60R18 LUCKYLAND HTG01 (invoice says they are 107V HIFLY HP801 XL) at £88 ea fitted. What have I done?!? It's mainly the wife pottering around with kids and it's a safe car right she will never push the car like Lewis Hamilton lol! Anyone have any experience surely it's a lot of clever marketing with the dearer other brands.

That link is for the new XC90, which this forum does not cover as there is a separate one for the new XC90.

Widely available tyre tests, say on AutoExpress for example, typically show how poor these strangely named tyres perform compared to others.

Each to there own but I'd rather take the bus than drive on a set of 'LuckyLand' tyres.

Good Luck.....There's a lot more to a tyre than clever marketing and it's partly due to correct tyre choice that helps make the XC90 the safe vehicle it is.

When I bought my XC it had budget tyres fitted. I found that they were appealing in the wet and always felt like I was driving on ice. You might find that the tyres wear quicker and also loose their grip early in their life. Often the cheaper tyres won't be as resistant to pot holes or kerbs and you could get a bulge in the sidewall with the merest impact.

Tyres are a very personal choice. They have to be manufactured to a minimum specification in order to be approved for use, so they won't be dangerous, but a premium tyre will outlast and/or out perform a budget tyre. I know what I want on my vehicle should I need to take avoiding action on a wet motorway!

Hi, thanks for commenting. Why is there the EU labelling then? surely all tyres must have the same test under the same conditions in order to come out with these grades. Or should we be disregarding these EU labels. another good thing to come out of the EU and wont be long until theyre gone anyway! #grumpyremainer lol!

Hi Jim,

I just checked website out and it does mention about the EU regulation etc and it says about these grades? Are these pretty pointless then?

Can you tell me more about the testing process etc these tyres go through? and are three tyres with a C wet rating not all the same?
