Depends on what happens to the splines that break off, as there is a chance that they work their way into the angle gear. Better to get the angle gear off and change the oil and fit a new sleeve in my view.

Not a bad price from what they use to quote, guess they've got better at it.

Indie's were doing it for about £350 when I had mine done. (As a precaution as I know the original sleeves are inclined to fail at about 60k. So I never actually lost AWD)

The longer the sleeve is left with loose metal in it the more possibility that the angle gear may get damaged.

When I bought mine I spent nearly 2k to sort things out.
It is expected of this car. Now what you can do is ,Of you are going to keep the car, there is lots.of precaution service could be done like alarm battery, changing all belts, hand brake. Shoes, differential oil change, all pulleys change,Tranny fluid change ets etc.

Certainly is.

If you just bought the car it's to be expected that the previous owner put off doing those little items. They can add up. They are fine cars but not the cheapest in the range to run. I had a few items done by the dealer when I bought mine as a condition of the sale. Mine has been very reliable over the years. Regular servicing by someone who knows the cars does reap it's rewards.

I rang the dealer. The advisor told me even it was maeked RED it is not required to
get done if I'm not doing off road heavily. In any case it will
drive as a two wheel. I'm not much technical and I'm not sure
I really got the idea.

PS : BTW what is the role of an advisor in Volvo ? Are they technical ?

Sounds like an idiot. Your car is not designed to run as an FWD only car. The FWD XC90 runs different software suited to an FWD only car. Traction will be worse than a FWD version because the system will not know the AWD is not linked the Haldex unit and still try to use it.

Find yourself a better dealer is my advice.
