Default V60 windscreen washers problem?

I notice my windscreen is covered in a fine haze of scratches where the wipers sweep. I have no way of knowing how the previous owner did or did not look after the windscreen but I notice a possible cause. When pulling the wiper stalk to do a wash wipe, the wipers manage almost a full sweep across the screen before any water comes out of the washer jets. This means a dry sweep and quite possibly leading to scratches.
My previous V50 didn't do this and you could even get water on the screen without a wipe by briefly pulling the stalk. Not so on the V60.
Anyone else's the same? Should there be any non return valves in the washer hoses? I'm thinking of fitting some.

It does sound like a non-return valve or something similar.

I can't answer your problem I'm afraid, but I can confirm that on my V60 the water is going everywhere before the wipers get moving!

My previous V60 and current CX60 also squirt first. It would be illogical to do otherwise so I assume there is a fault somewhere.

Certainly sounds like a faulty non return valve somewhere.

From reading up on this it seems that the 2-way and 3-way check valves that sit just below each washer nozzle have failed. I will replace these first and see what happens.

Perhaps they have failed because of bugs growing in the reservoir. Might be worth a good clean of the system before you re-assemble.

Almost every Volvo I have had suffered from failing non-return valves. It seems to be a common problem but most owners do not notice it. It could be formation of ice during winter but I don't know.

Just replaced those on my S60 - £17! Ouch!

I've never noticed it and perhaps that's why it has stood out on this car. I'm going to look at the Missus' Renault Captur, too, as that does a full sweep and half a sweep back again before any water gets on to the windscreen.

Changed both valves - barely any different. I did wonder if there was a non return valve further down in the line towards the washer bottle. I also wonder if a software update might be required. Would the wash/wipe settings be variable in Vida?

Hmmmm, may be connected - seem to have washer fluid leaking from below/behind the off side headlamp washer.
