Default 940 Alternator bolt snapped

Typical driving to airport and can hear belt squealing and it's raining all at 2am. I can't see anything wrong though.

Week later and I after a holiday in the sun. Leaving airport car park and again. I manged to bodge it for the 150mile drive back.

Now I see the issue. Bolt snapped.

Using poly bushes and now I wonder if I have it fitted correctly. I used to have air con and I got rid of that and fitted a normal alternator bracket and new bushes.

It's already eaten one belt about 6 weeks ago and belt wise it's been fine since but now the bolt has broken but it's been on for months.

Can someone share a picture of the correct way to fit the bushes and bolt?

Cheers

Did you back off the adjusting bolt after tightening up the other nuts/bolts? If not then it puts strain on the bolt and snaps it... happened to me a few weeks ago and after looking in to it it turned out to be a common issue. I have my A/C belt off so I just pinched the bolt from the A/C and I have backed it off about 10 turns now.

If it’s the adjuster bolt and it’s just the head has snapped off then put two nuts on the end tightened against each other and it should still have enough adjustment still.

They can snap anyway so it’s probably not the polybushes that’s done it.

If it’s the main bolt then that’s very unusual, perhaps it has been overtightened and stretched the threads or the belt has been overtightened.

You mean tighten up adjuster (10mm head) and then tighten the 140mm M8 bolt (now snapped) and the lower bolt

Then loosen the m10 adjuster?

I don't remember what i did tbh.

It's not the 10mm head adjuster bolt. The m8 140mm long bolt snapped but it's been fine for months. Yes very odd.
