Default moving up from v70 to XC70

I am on the hunt for an upgrade to my 2006 v70. I was initially only interested in an XC90 (because of the 7 seats option), iv got a thread going in the XC90 section. However, I think having 7 seats isn't really a must.

With that in mind, the XC70 is now on the radar.

Im going to view 2 in Peterborough this weekend. Before I go, is there any advice or things to look out for?

Iv checked the MOT on both cars and they all look ok with no worrying problems, just tyres/brakes/headlamps etc.

Im looking at the D5 engine again on an auto box. I think I want to go for the SE LUX as that offers the best spec.

Thanks

Timing belt (and related hardware) maintenance
Get the automatic fully warmed up and drive about town at middling speeds. Make it "shift queer".
Your comment about tyres and brakes seems usual-as in the car needs brakes and tyres. But what does "headlamps" mean?
The shocks and struts are likely worn.
Try the handbrakes. Even though they'll need visual inspection you can see if the cables work freely.

what I mean is, the reason for any previous MOT failures or advisory's was tyres/brakes or headlamps (bulbs)

Get it. That MOT of yours covers everything. I had never heard of advisories before reading this website.

I suppose it's a good thing to keep vehicle owners abreast of their cars' condition.

I witnessed a sever, high speed crash involving at least 9 cars yesterday on the other side of the New York State Throughway. I was southbound while the crash was northbound folk exiting town for the Fourth.

Only my sense of self preservation made me pay attention to my driving and not gawk at the wreck.

Car safety, while always important, is now religious with me.

Rear differential.

Not from experience- ive done similar research to yours, and one of things i learned was that if rear tyres (presumably same on front) weren't exactly same in circumference (one worn more than other), differential was prone to failure.

One of big reasons I decided to look for P3 XC70..

I thought that applied to the P1 V70/850 not the P2?

Apparently P2 XC70 as well..

But I'll be very happy indeed if it turns out to be untrue

Partly true; but only if your early P2 is fitted with the viscous coupling AWD system. Haldex 2 was introduced when the D5 engine was; and Haldex 3 was introduced when the P2 was facelifted.

This is correct. So much junk written about these cars from people who don't have a clue.
