Cutting out
A couple of months ago, I was travelling along the dual carrigeway at 70mph, when for a split second, the lambda light came on and the engine died, but only for about half a second and everything was fine again. It never did it again until today, when it did it twice within ten minutes. It was at slower speeds and the engine cut out altogether. As soon as I knocked it into neutral (it's an auto) and turned the key it fired up straight away. I drove about another fifteen miles but it never did it again, but now, of course, I'm holding my breath all the time incase it does it again.
Anybody any ideas? It drives fine with no warning lights 99% of the time. It's going in to get plugged into the computer later this week, but any help would be appreciated. Cheers. Brian '94 850GLT 2.5 20v |

RE: Cutting out
You should not need to "plug into a computer" on a '94 car.
It won't tell you anything you can't read form the diag sockets near the screen washer filler. A Haynes 850 manual will show you how. Best guess at the fault is faulty signal from Cam Position Sensor. This may not show a fault code though. Good Luck. |

RE: Cutting out
I had exactly the same problem on my 1997 940 2.3 lpt. Just before it occured i had a new tailpipe fitted. It was suggested to me that the Lamba sensor may have noticed a new exhaust and that the ecu has changed itself to accomadate. Whatever the problem was it hasnt occured again in the last 1000 miles. Id be interested to know if you find anything when your car gets on when it goes in for service.
