As I work on these cars daily I think you made a sound choice with proper maintenance the 2.0 diesel v50 is no bad car it's a good all rounder I hope you have trouble free motoring & enjoyable ownership!!!
As Great Father used to say "you're buying someone else's trouble" when you buy secondhand. Ok, that's a cynical view but with truth behind it. However, you can buy new and still end up with a dog.
It booked in for inspection on Saturday morning. It's had a throttle body so far and a new clutch in two weeks. Short of that, I'm getting 50mpg plus according to the computer and it pulls like a train. It's been garage maintained and looked after. I'm confident

I went for a 2005 S40 2.0d.My mate went for a V50 1.8 petrol after being in mine,he likes it as a lugga bus,but it's got alot less get up and go than my diesel.Issues wise,I have done 60k since I got mine, changed all the wheel bearings(18" wheels)at least once ,all the dampers, alternator, throttle pedal and throttle body (but problem was a dicky connection on the CEM ). The injector seals and spill pipes and recently (is in last night!) had to replace the wires that goto the boot lock, (which was easy enough to do).So apart from service items, just the alternator and the dicky connections on the CEM,(again is easy to do),have given me grief. Economy wise,I get 40 MPG, and don't nurse it,I have seen as low as 32 after the injectors got done, but seems to have settled now back in the 40's after I gave it a service.
