2009 S40 192,000 miles
Hi all,
So I have a 2009 S40 2.0D on 192,000 miles…….. I change the oil every 4,000 miles, I service her myself using genuine Volvo parts, timing belt has been done…….. is there anything else I should be looking out for or doing to keep her happy?? I travel a fair bit with work and I’ll be honest I get a little nervous every time thinking what could go wrong that I’ve missed! Now I appreciate anything could go wrong at this age and mileage but any tips gratefully received!! Thanks 😊 |

Personally at that mileage I would fit one of these restrictor plates to reduce soot in the engine and exhaust and take a bit of strain of the dpf.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121253753...cAAOSwTZ1XmxfD New gearbox oil every 60k...my 1/2p worth! |

Mine is pushing 240,000 miles.... so just over 65,000 miles in my hands over the past 4yrs and engine wise, it's had "some" oil changes and filters as and when I feel motivated enough to do it. It's also remapped and doesn't really get much love but with cars, it really is down to luck - you could replace everything, service on the dot, pamper it and it could still **** itself one day and likewise, you could completely neglect it and it'll run for years without any issues at all. Tough one to call... but just do whatever you're happy with.

Change the PAS fluid.
Its not part of the service schedule but well worth doing. Use a turkey baster to remove some from the reservoir, refill with chf ,turn wheel side to side a few times and repeat a few times until the 1 litre bottle is used up. I used Comma chf for £10 and turkey baster from anywhere for a couple of quid. New electric pas pump = ££££££££££ + Volvo software

Thanks, gearbox oil isnt something I had looked at tbh, is it difficult to do yourself? My EGR valve gave up the ghost about 2years ago, AA man blanked it and said to get it changed ASAP................it's still blanked and its how it will stay haha! Yup water pump done same time as timing belt. Great advise though thanks |

Im surprised the AA would commit an offence by modifying a car unlawfully under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulations 61(7) and 61A(3)) and the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 42), and then blithely allow the customer to drive it.
But then perhaps I shouldn't be, because it is the AA after all.
