This is very true, Alan, yet, have you, ah, looked at prices of 1800s? An Amazons, come to that? Repairing 1800s is not straightforward. . . maybe i'm being pessimistic.
Surely a 145 is going to be diff from a 240? diff suspension, steering, engine quite different?

Hi Morwenna

Yes I agree on prices, I suppose my ideal would be an Amazon estate, but prices for a very good one are, I’m afraid out of my wallets reach, and some projects are also going for several thousand.

My leaning to a 145 was probably driven by the more ‘classic’ 70’s appearance and mechanical/electrical simplicity, compared to my 940. In my mind, if the 145 driving experience isn’t a million miles different from a 740/940 then that’s quite a good thing.
Ones recently popped up on a well known online auction site currently a shade under £900, looks fairly complete, albeit needing a lot of bodywork.

An early 245 is very similar to a late 145 from the A-pillars rearwards, and above the bumpers.

HOWEVER, the front end is completely different, you could in theory fashion 145 front panels to a 245, but you would have to cut the chassis rails back - the 145 is shorter.

The rear bumper and valance area is quite different as well - I looked into it for my 245

Hi Steve.
This is what i'm waiting to find out, the actual diff between driving 145 an 240's. I have a 1970 145 currently being welded up. PV 544 is daily driver at mo, an that's a barrel of fun, with dcoe's on.
The car in Sheffield is up to £1250 ish now. You bidding?

Hi Morwenna240,

I'm not currently in the bidding on the 145 from Sheffield, luckily it's quite a long way away from me here in Suffolk, so I've been able to talk common sense to myself.

It does look to be a bit of a potential money pit, although aren't they all!!!😀

Also, one on there I think from Wales, sitting at £600 but on the face of it looks slightly better, although rusty at lower corner of near side rear window, and probably that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Oh well, I think I need to wait till my local Amazon section have their meet on 15th May in Southwold, just 25 miles or so from me, as the organiser Peter Ragg, kindly directed me away from a Amazon estate that was on eBay a few weeks ago, it had a bit a known history, but not in a good way!!! and has offered a welcome for me to attend as a non Amazon owner, to have a chat.

Trouble is, I fear, is that the more I see some probably very nice examples at the event, it will just make me even more determined to bag me one. Man maths is a wonderful thing😀

Cheers
Steve
