Anyone got a rear crankshaft oil seal leak?
Hi there on the off chance that this happens to you, i would like to let you know that my warranty had expired at the start of september and then of course the car developed the above oil leak about a week and a half later. thinking that i was on to a loser and would have to pay for it myself i phoned to double check with the garage i bought it from. lo and behold they called me back to say that this particular seal wasn't a recall item but had been noted to be a problem on several S40's. Therefore volvo warranty offered to pay 50% of the cost of repairs.
For those of you who don't know, repairing this seal is a gearbox out job and costs over £400 to get done at a volvo dealer; if it wasn't for this offer, the car would still be leaking just now. hope i save someone some cash, jacq. |

Hiya
Would be interested to know what mileage your car had when the leak started to be noticeable? Seems like Volvo were very reasonable with you as well, that's good to know. |

Hi there it happened just after 60,000 miles. they also replaced a small turbo seal leak as well..it was 75p :)
i give the car a bit of a hard life with 1/4 mile days etc, so i keep a close eye on it for leaks etc, although i was told that the original leak was nothing to do with wear and tear from my driving! jacq. |

Cool! The cheapest Volvo spare ever! :-)
Hmm, I'd better keep a careful eye on mine. Just over 70,000 miles, but on a 1.6. Do you know if your engine has the same block etc as mine? All the best |

hi there,
i don't think it's the same block, as the T4 makes 200bhp as standard, but they didn't say it was a problem unique to T4's so hopefully all S40's of a certain age range will be covered. fingers crossed you won't need to find out :) jacq. |

I just sussed what the '1/4 mile' was about - WOW! Hope you burn off loads of cars! :-)
Do you do that at Crail? Do you get to choose who and what you do the 1/4 mile run against? 200bhp is about twice what mine knocks out. Barnetts in Dundee have a T4 estate in just now, but I bet I couldn't afford to run it. I checked out the insurance though and it isn't that much more per year than what I pay just now. Maybe one day. |

yes i go to crail, it's great fun and there aren't many front wheel drives that beat us either! that was why i felt guilty when the oil leak started, i thought i must have caused it with the racing.;(
