RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
That would make a very impressive piece of kit - high compression, and uber-low boost (4 psi?) make for a spool-happy combination.
cheers James

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
Ok-you must forgive me here, engine work isn't my forte. I posted a similar thing on the 480 Europe forum-about Turbo'ing my 2.0, and somebody said it would be a pain in the ar*e! It was suggested that i transferred a 1.7 T lump instead....
So, does that mean that you could just put a Turbo on my engine without much work? Quite like the idea of an LPT with minimal conversion work, but it all sounds too good to be true-just sticking a Turbo on... Also, Mr T-i noticed that you've recently acquired a Black 460 Turbo....any news on that? :P R.e body mouldings; I expect that this has been seen before-nice tidy looking splitter style attachment on the front valance of this red 460-perhaps, if the whole front valance thing doesn't take off, this could be an alternative? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...edsplitter.jpg I know Dave done a group moulding of the 480 Splitter for the lads at 480 Europe, and it was only about £35 each. Perhaps if this was something that was put forward then maybe we'd find a few more commited members-it's one thing people saying yes, but it's another getting them to pay (not having a dig if anybody's reading and taking offence). I would much rather have the front spoiler, but i can't pay through the nose for it-hence the original post, getting people to chip in and share the cost to keep the final price down. Come on people, where are you?! It's pants being a student-if i worked i'd have just bought the bloody thing by now! Anyway, rambling.....

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
Well no, it's not quite that simple, and I'll leave it to someone else say whether or not the manifolds will bolt straight up. As for engine control...assuming that the standard ECU can't cope (worth a try, as the NA 740 ones can cope with boost within reason!), Megasquirt is the way forward....but as Matt found out, it's potentially quite tricky to install...so professional help might be needed there. You'll probably find it'll run just fine on the stock EMS, but nicely mapped MS will get the best out of it as a future upgrade.
For £300 or so, you'll have a fitted, mapped and running fully programmable ECU...for half the cost of a 'chip' for a T5! An assembled MS kit is ~£150...plus fitting...plus mapping...hmm...maybe £300 is a bit optimistic, but you get the idea. That gives you huge flexibility for future upgrades too. cheers James

RE: 440/460 Bodykit...
I'm yet to find anyone that has got megasquirt running on the volvo 400 engine. I got my car running quite sweet on it, and damn was it powerful/tunable. However i struggled on the emissions side of it, scraping it through the now 0.5% mot emissions is very difficult without a lot of time, patience and access to the correct equipment (dyno/exhaust gas analyser). I wouldn't recommend trying this unless you really know what your doing, its fun at first, then it just ****es ya off, especially when your prize posession FAILS a MOT :O

As long as you get it installed OK, most dyno places will map it for about 2-3 hours dyno time....£100-150. Still cheap compared to chipping, given that it's remappable!
cheers James

front spoiler for 440
hers a cost effective method of getting a front spoiler, seat toledo !!fits easily with minor mods with a stanley knife, its a plyable plastic too so speed bumps, kebs etc wont break it, theres no doubt that the OE one looks good, just thought it may be easier to source and cheaper too. i have one on mine, check it out in the gallery under jambo. hope this is of use.

Sorry if this is a bit offtopic, but since this thread already discussed the matter, I'd rather ask it here than create a whole new thread.
I have a 1994 facelift 460, and the front bumper has crashed into something in the hands of the previous owner, and I'd rather replace it than try to force it back into shape, glue it, attach it with rivets and go over it with filler, so I have been looking for a new used front bumper. The problem is, I can't seem to find anyone with a facelift 460 thats being scrapped from Volvoclub Estonia, and its not that popular in the scrapyards either. What I have found though, is a number of 1992-1993 or so 440 and 460 Volvos that are being sold to pieces, but I am not certain whether or not the bumper changed with the facelift, and if I would be able to fit an older bumper on my car. Daniels posts seem to indicate that at least some type of the older front bumper should fit the new models, but could I get a confirmation on this please? |
