V40 door handles - pinching fingers
Hi. Just joined from Scotland.
Got V40 D2 R design Powershift Osmium Grey last Friday and everything is as I expected. However, as title suggests, there is a finger-pinching issue with the door handles. So far, I've pinched left and right fore fingers at the interface between the fixed and moving parts. This occurs when handle is returning to dock position. The return-spring pressure is greater than I've experienced previously and this is contributory. I also have a 51 plate VW Polo and the handles operate on the same principle as the V40. But I've never had any pinching issue with them. On the Polo the end of the handle has a rounded projection that prevents finger from entering the gap between handle and housing. And spring pressure is significantly less. Surprising that 14 years later Volvo seem unable to attain a similar standard. I now know how to avoid a repeat but still find it hard to believe that pinching is even possible in such a prestigious marque as Volvo. Any one else had a similar experience? |

Wait til you hit your head on the grab handle above the driver"s door! Or cut your forehead on the sharp edge of the boot cover when packing groceries into the boot! I had an old Volvo 460 and once moved the front seat forward too fast and the pyrotechnics in the seat belt tensioner went off. This pulled the seatbelt stalk down and ejected the protective cover. This cover had a danger warning sign on it which was a picture of a pair of scissors and a hand with a line through it! I thought it was quite funny that a safety device should come complete with its own safety warning! (Which, by the way, sits beside the seat and is invisible until the pyrotechnics fire off!!!)
Welcome to the world of Volvo!

Probably but VW is very good at the little touches the door pockets are for example rubber lined to prevent items from rattling around its these little attention to details that make the VAG group cars feel a bit more special if a little bland. The Volvo though does feel well put together and a little more unique and I prefer to be inside the V40 more than the Golf. Sorry cannot really help other than to say yes the handle can give you a nip, as for the parcel shelf! Never had an issue with that and cannot see how you could cut your head on it, it doesn't feel to cheap to me either just very light. |

Both my wife and I have nipped our fingers in the handles - and learned the lesson! Just temporary discomfort suffered. However, i agree that more time could have been spent on the design.
