Default Horn replacement

Hello all,

I need to replace the non-working FIAMM horns with standard ones on my GLE to get it through the MOT re-test on Monday. They don't work (I've done some testing). Luckily I have a new pair of horns. A couple of questions for you.

1. I need the 2 screws that secure the horns to the bracket underneath the car. Are there any similar screws elsewhere on the car I can use. I mean borrow from my other car (it's horn screws are rusted on so no good).

2. The strange connectors. 4 of these needed. Until I can get some proper ones, in the short term, is there a way I can wire up the new horns? I wondered about using bullet crimps and squeezing them smaller with pliers, but I don't know how good it would be.

Thanks, William

1. Could you not use different self-tapping screws? Maybe drill the fixing hole out a bit and use a small bolt/s.

2. If you are thinking of using bullet connectors. I would chop the plug/socket off and solder suitable individual wire connectors on with self-amalgamating tape over the lot to provide a waterproof seal and tuck the lot up in a 'nice dry place' under the bumper or elsewhere. You could also use crimp style connectors. Heat shrink tube over the connectors is another alternative. That's what I would do until the horns stopped working .... best of luck.

Can you get a photo of the connectors you need or what they're going onto please? I've come across a few odd connectors in my time and can probably point you in the right direction.

Alternatively why not buy a pair of horns that don't need anything exotic to connect them?

They should do the job for you!

the old skool connectors are not on anything newish, best bet is nip off down to scrapyard and get some normal superseal connectors, s/v40 have easy to get to ones and will last much longer. just need to snip some wire and crimp or solder them on.

I've sorted it!
It turns out that the bolts are just M8 flange heads.
And the connectors are the same as used elsewhere on the car, but I didn't realise that at first. So I've used some headlight cabling from a previously scrapped car and just joined it onto the car's cable with heat-shrinkable butt crimps. Just needs tidying up now.
