But the main reason to retrofit HIDs is to improve dipped light, not main beam (that is actually pretty good on our cars)

I thought that the other day when I used main beam, it's brighter than on my old V70 and the van I have now!

Yep, thats because our main beam is good old fashioned free-form reflector with good focus and powerful bulb throwing 100% of light onto the road. Where our dipped beam is projector that by design and other factors (like complicity and more parts) is "keeping" some light. When you combine it with underpowered light source ("longlife H7"... please...) you are ending up with candles that we have.

Would a rear roof spoiler from a pre-facelift V50 fit my 2008 post facelift V50? Part number is 08698054. Thanks

Thanks for all the replies about the headlights.

Another quick question, this time about rims. Is it a straightforward swap to put 18" rims on my V50 with an offset of 45? I've currently got 17" rims but fancy a change.

Thanks

Your car is programmed to a certain rim size so without changing software it will give false readings on speedo, but I think thats pretty much all. I *think* it wont affect DSTC or any other systems.

Ok thanks. As I have VIDA & DICE is this something I could change myself if needed?

Good question, Im actually not sure.
I know Vida will tell you what rim size is programmed into car but whethwer you can edit that without volvo software package - that I am not sure.
Interested to hear the outcome if you figure it out.

I know that if you change from 17's with a profile of 50 tyres, to an 18" wheel with 45's or 40's you won't need to change anything.
Just bear in mind that the speedo only goes out by a mph or two.
