Default "58" plate 20 d v50 r design

Hey y'all
Having a nightmare with my v50,wasn't starting.was recovered by rac to my local garage with a suspected fuel pump failure, didnt show any fault messages or lights on dash, or codes on diagnostic. Only thing was 2 psi pressure.
Anyhow after new pump was fitted, the car has an intermittant starting problem, been going on for over a month, and has since had new filter/seals, back feed fuel lines.and checked for leaks.
I am not very good with cars apart from basics, the car still displays no fault lights/messages or codes.it has been bled/primed several times, but the problem is still there.just have no faith in it.
Had a trip out this weekend, as per it wouldnt start from cold, leave the ignition to g through its glow plug cycle still no start.
But then tried the second key and it started 1st time. Ahh its the fob i here you say.Stopped after 20miles or so left for 30 mins but wouldnt start with the second key, but would with main key.and this occured all day on starting.
Any ideas I'm am losing my patience and savings on this car and wishing i had never traded up(hehe) from my banger v40
Cheers in advance.

When it's running are there any bubbles visible in the clear fuel line under the engine cover on the R/h side of the engine. There should be none. It could be electrical, I know the ignition barrel can fail. When it is not starting, if you turn the key to position two do all the dash lights go out?

Yup, dash lights go off in position 2.last time i saw under the cover engine running there were the occasional bubbles, but was told this is normal, by several mechanics.Any likeley air ingress points/weak points.

If you are getting bubbles it may point to an air leak. As the car does not have a fuel pump, it relies on the lines being pressurised by the diesel pump. If there is a leak you may be low on pressure, hence the starting problems. Unlike the Peugeot and Citroen version there is no hand primer on the fuel line. I had issues after fuel filter replacement getting the line primed. I visited a scrapyard and got the primer from a Peugeot and fitted it before the filter housing, in the event of a fuel run out or another filter change I can re prime the fuel line. Your leak could be the fuel filter housing, apparently quite common , funnily it seems to show after a filter change. You could try fitting a hand primer and when she doesn't start, hand pump it and try again, worth a try?

Cheers pacman,my garage did say they would fit a hand primer if i wished, but dont fancy poping the the bonnet to prime fuel line every other time i stop.they have changed filter and seals but will ask him to re check for leaks in particuar in the filter housing.Luckily hes a nice lad, and is not the kind to give in.
Hopefully it will get sorted, if not, hand pump fitted and trade in or on the cards.

It sounds like the filter housing, like I said it is a common issue, I think they must crack or something, and happens after filter change, even with new seals. It can also be the seals on the connectors in and out of the filter housing.

Had one of these today - check the pipe between the filter and the injection pump - the one we had turned out to be a tiny pin hole in the pipe just by the gearbox end of the rocker cover as it bends and goes up to the pump, it was touching the high pressure pipe that goes to the common rail and had chafed through!!
