'04 V40 1.9d - Idle Probs.....

Since I bought the V40 (model below), I've been aware of an issue with RPM when coming to a stop. Basically, it always drops to around 600 then climbs straight back to 800.

I cleaned (carefully!) the Air-Mass-Sensor a few weeks back with carb-cleaner hoping that would resolve, but no change.

There's no warning lights on. No other symptoms. Mileage is 111k - full volvo service history.

Any ideas???

Blocked ERG valve and various other breather pipes around the valve? Will have to double check to see if one is fitted to your car. Almost certain it's a similar valve system fitted to my engine.

My V40 D 2002 model idles at around 650-700 rpm which i find quite low as my previous mk4 golf tdi 150 idled at just under 1000 rpm which also made it handy for crawling up hills in 2nd gear!Strange how volvo's idle is set so low.
Mine has done 97k and the idle does sometime fluctuate
