I got it from Toyota (long before my second car became a Toyota). And my Toyota needs some other fluid (Prius, so CVT).
I lost track whoose car it is and what plate (54 plate doesn't mean anything to people outside the UK, it that second half 2004?). But my gearbox is AW50/51 AWD I think. |

yup 54 is sept 04 onwards but could be built anytime that's just the date it was registered but yes in practice it means 2nd half 2004

hehe it's a method where you pull out the green plug at the top of the gearbox cooler (right hand side of rad as you look at car)
stick a hose INSIDE the hole to a graduated measure. Start car on idle, til 1 litre is in container then turn off, it'll still pump another half litre ish so 1.5L total. fill 1.5L, repeat etc until cherry red. approx 15L required. 10 at a push

Thanks guys
Just want to add a bit more re my box issues, it only ever gets notchy if i give it some stick, if i drive it like miss daisy to get the best economy i can, it does not clunk into reverse or up and down a gear. From what ive read when looking up fault finding on Vida, it reads like the box needs replacing. Would a fluid change make any difference?

Mine is the same. Only clunks 3 to 4th after beat the crap out of it. Drive normally to brisk no problem.

Looks like my 1st try would be to have the g/b flush done, my nearest volvo specialist is Wrights at Attleborough, not what i would call close by mind, not sure if it can be done while i wait? Failing that, could so with someone near me thats already done their own and happy to do mine
The other option is to replace the valve body, now, as i do not feel confident even doing the g/b flush, i dont think this is a job for me either lol

I'm handy with the spanner and can't be bothered to do the valve body as it's not a guarantee, expensive and fiddly
