Default Tell me about the XC60 please

I've been running 940 Estates for the last 16 years except a brief spell with a hateful Jaguar X type.
Wondering about moving into the 21st Century with an XC60, second hand, budget probably less than £9K. Would prefer less but it might be more.

I know nothing about them, they seem to be all Diesel(?) with different power outputs, widely different mpg figures and VED rates. Are they all AWD?

It'll be a family car, occasional tow car, one of the main criteria is that I can fit 2 dog cages in the back while retaining the seats. Dog cages are 800 x 560 x 600mm high. At the moment they fit in the back of the 940 side by side. Not sure the sloping rear window will allow this on the XC60. What's the distance between the wheelarches, needs to be 1120mm minimum.

Most for sale at this price seem to have mileages around 100K, are these as good as the 940 for surviving huge mileages.

Was thinking about a VW T5 van but to use as a day van but the XC60 would be a nicer drive the rest of the time.

If you've got this far and can give me a little guidance, thanks in advance.

Not sure I could answer all your questions but I bought a 2013 XC60 in December. To say I am impressed is an understatement. I had a lovely S80, D5, which I owned for 6 years plus. I looked around but didn't think I would get a better Volvo. Like you, I looked around and there aren't too many for sale at the price, age and mileage. But I did see this one at Volvo Galashiels, had a wee chat with the salesman and travelled down to see it. One owner, 39,000 miles, full Volvo service history, 2.4 D5 with Polestar chip producing 215bhp and price not too far away. He left me to go and have a drive. Loved it. Cut a long story short, I bought the car, drove the 83 miles home and it was absolutely delightful. Consumption on that day was about 10mpg better than the S80. Road Tax cheaper too but insurance dearer. I don't know about dog cages, my wee dog just climbs in the front beside us. Got car seat covers at Lidl's for £4.99! Great service from Clelands and to sum up I am continually trying to find excuses to go for a drive. When you find yours, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for that, sounds good, need to find one to go look at, not much for sale around Oban.
If you get 5 minutes would you run a tape measure across the boot floor between the wheel arches please.
Thanks in advance

Top man, so two cages will slide in lengthwise, just need to make sure the I don't slam the tailgate down on them. My old 940 Estate has a near vertical rear window, the XC60 slopes. Will try and get around a few car sales places in the next two weeks to have a better look. Stirling or Glasgow are nearest, both about two and a half hours away. Have to say there seems to be very few poor reviews of them.

we had to cut down a dog crate to fit in the volvo, crate was 910mm deep but had to cut down to 810mm to fit in xc60, we did have avensis estate before, but our crate sloped back on the front. didnt work though as crate ended up being to small for large labrador

So our 800mm cage might go in unscathed?

Why not create something the same size out of old cardboard boxes and take it with you when you go and look at an XC60?
