VIDA is the OEM diagnostic software which will tell you EVERYTHING about your car.

it's the same software the Volvo dealers use to diagnose, measure, inspect, analyse, follow repair instructions, read functional descriptions, and also order parts from and update software.

It is much more than a code reader.

No, the way you are trying will only tell you what modules have fault codes set.

Vida is a dealer level diagnostic software package that along with a piece of hardware called a dice will give you the fault codes recorded by every module of the car and give fault finding instructions- that’s a very basic description, it gives far more than that and as invaluable as a spanner in your toolkit.

Edit - beaten to it!

That's ok.
If you want to go ahead, just let me know on the main sales thread here.

So I had the codes read this morning, seem to have a bit of a long list. Not sure what relevant, but what I've been told from it is the thermostat housing needs replacing, complete with a genuine temperature sensor. Indie says this should fix my hot starting issue.

See attached image of issues

What does he mean by should? Either it will or it won't.
He could very easily have tested the temperature sensor using live data whilst you were there and shown you whether the temperature being read is credible or not.
You can even test it with a £5 ELM327 reader so I'm confused as to why there's no certainty.

You can't definitively diagnose a temperature sensor using just a fault code.
