How to find out which Engine tune is installed? (D5)
Hi folks,
Having a bit of bother getting the 2008 2.4D 163hp to run nicely after full servicing, has intermittent boost issue it seems. Swirls appear to be working, EGR has been cleaned, can't find any air leaks etc etc.... Anyway, back to the topic on hand, is it possible to see if the car has been remapped by a previous owner? I have DICE VIDA 2014. I want to see if the engine software is the original or messed about with. Can't find anything on the tinternet how to do this. Thanks, S

When you had it serviced, did you use a Volvo dealer and if so did they update the software as they are supposed to do free of charge. If they did, the tune state can only be standard or Polestar as the software overwrite wipes any third party software.

Unless it’s polestar, an unofficial remap sets a checksum error code in vida.

Thanks for the replies, no it’s not been to a dealer for some years.
I’ll look for that error.

To update, there is checksum error.
Boost is also very keen, asks for 1.6 bar and gets 1.7bar! Vast clouds of black smoke, then goes into limp mode. Suspect it has dodgy remap and turbo vanes are sticking, very whistly as well. Going to replace turbo actuator and/or turbo (got both on way) and then get Volvo software update done to reset the ECU mapping to standard.

Suspect you’ve got an air leak on one of the turbo pipes or inter cooler. I’d be giving the intake side, especially the rubber pipe on the turbo outlet for splits. I’ve got mine to replace tomorrow, they go soft with age and collapse under acceleration then eventually split causing overfuelling and the resultant black smoke. That’s from my P2 E3 knowledge, I’d have thought the DPF would take care of the smoke unless it’s mapped out.
