Do you know if your mechanic checked the pump timing after fitting the new belts?
It's usual to do it dynamically with the aid of the appropriate software. earlier cars use completely different software to later ones. My 1998 V770 Tdi needs the earlier version. However I believe it it can be done statically if you are adept with a dial gauge. If your mechanic did check and adjust the timing if it was necessary then the problem is probably elsewhere. However if he didn't, then I'd get the pump timing checked first. An average mechanic should be perfectly capable of changing the belts since I as an amateur can do it myself. However I did get the timing checked and adjusted by the local Volvo dealer. I had to reset the pump timing from scratch since it was lost when the cambelt broke. I was only out by less than 5 degrees but the engine ran so much better when it was set properly. I hope this is of some help Martin 1998 V70 Tdi SE auto 224,000 miles |

D5252T problem starting
Maybe a faulty non return valve. This is on top of your filter under a plate held down with two 7mm bolts. If you can blow through this on the non return side then replace it.If faulty this will allow fuel to drain back to your tank.
