When my horns went kaput there was no way I was putting them back where Volvo originally put them, its almost as if some horn manufacturer had given them a back-hander to ensure they were in the worst possible position.......

So when I got my Hella Sharp-tone horns they went behind the grille. Not only do they look good they really fire the sound out and this ensure people really do hear you!

Thanks Rob, I had been giving serious thought to that position in which they are easy to fix.

However, I may have come to the conclusion that possibly, just possibly, the hooters are more protected where they are situated (and that's not ideal by any means) as they are not subjected to the direct force of the weather/spray etc through the grille when driving.

In their current position they are at least just protected by the bumper and the steel plate behind and the headlight assembly itself. The only direct weather effect would be any water spin off from the n/s front wheel and the road in general. They are slightly higher than the lowest level of wheel arch/inner arch plastic shield.

I have to admit that they do look good behind the grille.

I think that I am coming to the conclusion that if they last another 30 years in their current position the replacements will well last out my lifetime.

Bob

I've been thinking about the position i'll fit mine, similar position to Rob but a little lower so they're out of the direct line of sight (shay it like Sean Connery! ) but will still scare the bejesus out of whoever is stupid enough to walk out in front of me.

Eh .... big hooters then Dave! I still haven't quite decided and they may well go behind the grille if I can tuck them out of the direct onslaught of the elements. Bob

My plan is to mount mine (probably going to be a pair of air horns) so they're behind the bumper crash bar area, that way they won't impede air flow to the radiator/air-con condenser etc any more than the bumper already does yet will still be protected from the majority of the elements but be close enough to the "outside world" to really penetrate with their output.

To be honest they aren't really very visible at all, I had to get down quite low to take that picture and get the right light etc. There a couple of bolts I used to mount the horns on, via a couple of strips of metal. Was pretty easy in the end but needed a relay....

I was trying to be polite Rob when i said "out of the direct line of sight (shay it like Sean Connery! )" it was meant to be "out of the direct line of sh!te" as in muck, dirt, water and anything else sprayed up from the road!

Not quite whether they could be seen or not!
