Default 940 16” Wheels

Hi,

Returning once more, so please bear with me, I’ve tried a search to no avail, but might anybody be able to tell me if these would fit a 940 estate? The tyres are 205/55/16, but I’m thinking more for winter use, hence I’m curious about the best size of tyre for winter?

Thanks in advance, hope my image loads!

If the stud pattern is 5x108 (it will be stamped somewhere in the wheel) and the offset aka ET is correct then it should be fine. The easiest way to tell would be to fit one and see if it fouls the caliper etc.

They look like front wheel drive wheels so the offset will probably be wrong and you will need spacers

FWD wheels will require spacers. Plenty around in 5 on 108mm and not expensive. You'll probably need at least 1" to clear calipers etc. As Beast says - if you have the wheels best to offer them up. Don't forget - do front and back ! Basically you can fit any 5 on 108mm wheels - I fitted 8.5 x 16" Jag wheels to my 940. I might even check them out on my V70 !!

There is a useful thread on the Turbobricks e-group that lists all the Volvo wheels: https://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=72501

They definitely look like FWD wheels, tyre size is right as it's virtually the same diameter as a 195/65/15, literally a couple of mm in it.

As beachcomber said, you'll need spacers at least 1" (25mm) as the normal 940 offset (ET) is about 20mm.

https://www.carlsalter.com/volvo-wheel-fitments.html

That gives information on Volvo wheel fitments so hopefully helpful.

Hi,

Thanks for the great responses folks, really appreciate it, I’ll give them a miss, but if somebody else wants them, they were on gumtree in Hemel Hempstead, only £80 with decent tread tyres...albeit no make ones!

Cheers,

Red

i always stick to wheels that were originally sold by Volvo as suitable for the 940, although not necessarily the ones that came with the car. I reason that way there is no need to declare a modification to the insurance company. Spacers with fwd wheels would definitely count as a modification.

Funnily enough, i've fitted Volvo S40 wheels to my Rover 827, only needed a spigot ring to ensure proper location, declared it to the insurance, they asked the rim diameter, width and offset and promptply said i didn't need to declare it as long as the locking nuts that were previously on there were refitted.

Very wise. And above all, a safety first approach.

And. I wonder how many wheels and other modifications are declared.

I fitted Omegas (the last word in wheels) to my 240 and I told the broker that is a size that is fitted to some 240 by Volvo. And that it enables me to buy quality tyres more available in 15 inch than 14 inch. That was fully accepted.
