I assembled my race engine (not Volvo) last year about this time. It was a fun project. You should find it the same.
Several times in the middle of the night, I woke up with a start, not remembering if I had done some portion of the assembly correctly. I would scratch my head and ask myself things like, "did I torque those bolts down?" or "did I use Loctite on those main caps?" Not able to remember distinctly, I would go back and double check, which mostly involved taking apart and reassembly. So you should mark with a dab of paint when the bolt is properly installed or keep detailed notes because there is so much test fitting that it is hard to remember. All that test fitting was because although the machine shop had set many of the clearances, I double checked as many as I reasonably could. I did find that the machine shop had mangled my exhaust valve tips. My camshaft also felt tight in the new bearings. The engine held together (so far) to 7,000 rpm. But I failed to bolt down the transmission bellhousing fully in my rush to install the engine as I discovered, probably just in time, that it was very, very loose.
