You are better off taking the whole turbo out as you will probably find the exhaust side will be cracked. My original was and the "good condition" one I'd bought from eBay was. I rebuilt mine myself with new seals etc and new exhaust housing using the excellent guide in the articles section. That was circa 10 years ago and I've put over 40k miles on it with no issues and boosts perfectly.
If you do it yourself the main nut over the intake blades is reverse threaded and is only a small torque level. If you read the guide you'll see why I mention it.
