Default Why hurry?

Wafting my way home from the office at 60-65 mph with various German jelly mould clones tearing past me and I thought why hurry?

I'm in a superb environment, sat in a plushly skinned comfortable armchair listening to a £3,000 Wi-Fi system. My destination will be fine if I'm a few minutes later than the Germans but more relaxed.

I love my car

And that right there is why us young'un's get the pee taken out of us when we buy a Volvo, the BTCC did help way back when BUT, the younger gen would be non the wiser...

A so-called friend "ay-up lad, wheres t'flat cap and Whippet?"
Me, ,,i,,

I got that a lot when i bought my 1st ever Volvo, twas the S70 T5, funnily enough, he didnt take the pee as much after taking him out for a wee jaunt in it
Not too long after, he bought an 850 T5

I have to add though, for me, the "hurry" side is more fun, its a thrill, but i dont drive Scooby driver stupid, but i also dont drive Morgan Freeman stupid either

The only advantage of the German rep-mobiles bombing it up the motorway at over a ton is to confirm that the speed cameras on the M1 are switched off.

I have to stop my self speeding and enjoy the driving experience. I love my music and have it cranked up in my car on the way to work. Same as my convertible that’s my fun car for driving carefully.

My lad was one of the young'uns who did know. When he bought his first 740, his mates gave him a packet of Werther's Originals. He just strapped a larger turbo on it.

Two others in his group were also into Volvos. One still has an immaculate 240 Wagon, currently running at about 400bhp. Reliably.

No they're not. When not enforcing a variable limit they revert to enforcing the 70 limit. However, the number of pings is so vast the forces involved cannot process anywhere near all of them. So, each morning they look at the stats and automatically do anyone recording over 100. They then select a band within the 70-99 range, dependent on numbers, weather, traffic flow at the time, etc, and ticket them. The bulk will get off and never receive a ticket because it is very much a numbers game, but don't be thinking that means they're not switched on.

The stretch of motorway I worked on (retired plod) would ping an average of 10 a minute for each carriageway over a 24 hours period, nearly 15000 a day, and no way could 4 people process them all, so we selectively dealt with them as described above. Hell. things went bananas when we had a 50 limit to enforce for roadworks, which more than doubled the numbers.

I feel that compliance - past the cameras that is - on the section I use every day (J30-J32) is not as bad as 10 a minute. I do see them flash, but maybe one flash per week on average. Most of the regular users know which gantry the HADECS cameras are on and slow down. Also if I do see a flash is usually when something other than 70 being displayed.

Compliance - other than directly around the cameras - is poor however. But then when you start giving authority to set speed limits to people in control rooms who slap down a 40 limit at the drop of a hat or set a 50 limit because they have received one report of unspecified debris (I kid you not) then what do you expect? If the speed limit seems unreasonable then people ignore it.

The average motorist is incapable of sticking to 30 in urban areas, where people live, work and play. The average motorists sits a cars length or less from the car in front at motorway speeds. The average motorist is incapable of behaving in a reasonable manner, so they're typically in no position to complain when something else traffic related has the appearance of being unreasonable.
