Default Temp spare wheel with storage - Where does the red hook go?

Hi all,

My V60 has the temp spare wheel with the storage insert, so doesn't have the split/folding floor panel (the one that allows you to hold shopping with the strap as per the manual).

My floor panel is the solid one and underneath is a strap with a red hook which is, I'm assuming, to hold the panel up in order to get to the storage and wheel etc.

My question is, where does the red hook go?

I'm assuming it just rests on the rubber seal as it's the only place it fits due to the length, however I find it odd that this isn't described in the user manual given the option was available at the time the car was first manufactured.

I've got the 'shopping bag' floor and the hook of the red strap sticks to the underside of the floor with Velcro type material.

I can't see that yours would be any different.

Mine also has has the Velcro and sticks underneath when not in use, it was more a case of where is the red hook meant to be located to take the weight of the floor.

Does the 'shopping bag' floor also have an addition strap to hold the bags in place then or do they just hook ok dedicated hooks and you hope they don't bounce off?

mine flips up and has a (bit rubbish TBH) elastic strap, but usually putting the bag handles in the clips and the elastic around works fine.

I will have to look for the velcro as a PITA when the boot wont close proprly!

Right, that makes sense now as the manual states about the strap but I didn't realise you have the red hook as well.

Mine is only half held on so maybe yours just dropped off some time ago?

I've actually got strong magnetic tape at home so I'm going to replace the Velcro with that.

Seems strange they didn't add an anchor point in the roof for it like they did for the cargo net poles as all they would need to do was make the strap a few centimetres longer (and possibly change the hook design to the mushroom head like the cargo net poles).

The only reason it bothers me by the way is because I worry the weight may damage the rubber boot lining.

It seems to work perfectly well on many thousands of cars, so I wouldn’t worry too much, my hook hardly touches the rubber seal as most of the weight is borne by the tip of the hook onto the metalwork.

also the time you will likely be using the red hook is probably minutes in total for the enture ownership of the car.

I have cut my lower 'cubby' so i could fit my spare wheel in there rather than it being int he boot space.

Nice retrofit

I still think the floor would be better held by side bolts that slide/flick out rather than a hook and strap, but like you say, for the amount of time used it's not a deal breaker (still annoys me though )
