Default Download of maps to USB

Being a regular traveller to France I downloaded the new 1260 update to USB (from windows laptop last night).

I've not plugged into car yet as I don't think it'll work, last time I downloaded the full map update c49gb, to speed things up this time I decided to just download France 4gb not requiring the rest of Europe.

However, the map arrangement is odd a few individual .zip folders rather then individual map files. I downloaded direct from the download app as last time and even logged into the site.

It's such a simple download I can't see what has gone wrong, anyone else had this?

With these large files, from memory, I think you first need to, say download the zipped file to your PC, then unzip it and then put the unzipped file onto a clean memory stick.

Then you can do the update via the car's USB connection with said memory stick.

Not all that easy is it? I think Volvo could make it an easier thing to do than this but it's complicated to do because it's such a large file.

Full instructions are at the bottom of this page:

You do not need to unzip anything, just download the map you require onto the USB stick and put it in the car USB slot. Just follow the download procedure.
Have you got the French map selected as your region in Sensus navigation when doing the update ?.

I have North West Europe selected as my home region in the sensus and that is happily updating that using my phone data.

It's just odd last having 4 or so zip files for France, last time they were just map files not in zip folders. Perhaps that's because I selected just one region, France, to download to USB rather than all Europe?

I stopped doing single Country updates via USB. IIRC you do not need to extract anything. Just put the USB Stick into (if you have double USB Slots) white USB Slot.
The reason I stopped doing it is that you get only bare responses from the system about the ongoing process. I think there was a massage at the beginning but you do not get any sensible information about if it is still running, how far it is and so on. So do not be confused if you do not get any response from the system. Just wait....
If you do not have a really slow internet access it is better to do the full 49GB update. I just did and it took ca. one and a half hour for download and about 50min for the install in Sensus. And you get the Update Circle in the update App with information how far it is.
Also it seems any Update, be it regional or whole Europe takes about 1h to install. So it is actually faster to do the big update then two lokal.

North western europe does not include France, it is Great Britain, Ireland and Greenland. You are trying to update the wrong map.

Apologies, perhaps I have explained myself poorly.
In Sensus NWE is set as my home region and is auto updating OTA I had 1243, yesterday it finished intalling 1250, it's now installing again (I suspect 1253) and maybe it'll then download 1260 and I'll be up to date!

Seperate to that I decided to download France as a disctinct region to USB and plug that into the car so I eventually have version 1260 for NWE and France (not bothered about the rest of europe as we currently don't drive outside on the UK and France).

So logged into the download centre selected download just France 1260 c4.15gb to USB (took about 15 minutes). However, when looking at the USB stick it's got several .zip folders rather than loads of map files when you download for full 49gb. It's just odd.

The downloads are zip folders not map files, the car sorts them out for you when you plug the USB in.
If the French update does not work, try changing your home region to France before putting the USB stick in the car with the French update you may be trying to overwrite the NWE map, which it wont allow.
