RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
Leaving the dealer to one side for now, one thing I would say is that apart from this suspension issue, I personally think this is a stunning car and I am sure we will get over this challenge. My beef is that previously having had a Honda S2000 and a Jaguar X-Type sport, both exhibited superb sports road-holding that the R is not living up to at the moment and it is a somewhat more expensive cars.
Reason I raise this is that the dealer in question initially came up with the gem of 'perhaps sir is not used to sports suspension cars'!! Bringing the dealer back into this - if you think Volvo dealers are bad, you should try Jaguar - quite simply the biggest group of f***wits I have had the displeasure to deal with. Conversely, my dealings with Honda dealerships, even with a specialised car like the S2000 were mostly positive. I have now forwarded the dealer the links to the swedespeed site which lists exactly the same problems I am having - I await their response with interest....... |

RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
sorry to hear you are having such terrible problems with what should be an amazing new car :(
it looks to me as though volvo should be recalling these cars and replacing the faulty bits: i am shocked that anything would have to be replaced on a car which had only done 3000 miles! volvo for life indeed x( has anyone you have come across on the swedish sites gotten to the root of their R's problem? if so then i guess all you can do is demand that yours get the same thing fixed or demand your money back amid mentions of the words 'Watchdog' and 'letter to The Times' etc. good luck. jacqueline. |

RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
Hi Jacqueline, biggest challenge with the dealer at the moment is getting them to admit there is a fault (which there quite obviously is) and stop the current bull**** of calling it a 'characteristic'!!
Ultimately, if the dealership and/or Volvo dont accept this and attempt to put it right - I will ask the dealer in writing to take the car back and refund me fully. If they play hardball here (which I fully expect) my plan is to take the car to an independent suspension consultant for them to look at and write a full (and hopefully damning) report - which I can then ultimately make use of in taking legal action. Not a course I want to go down for obvious reasons (this is my first Volvo and I have just picked up an XC90 as well) but given the hassle I have just had with an X-Type Jaguar - I have kind of had it with dealers and manufacturers alike. |

Add the Consumer Association (the Which magazine people) to your list of contacts - this is exactly the kind of thing that they're good at sorting.
www.which.co.uk will find their site, follow the links to get things moving. |

RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
found this on swedespeed:
from Jarmo.... the rear suspension noise... There is an SW upgrade to fix sound produced by the shocks.... FID 950 p/n 8691393 chassis range: S60 315516-999999999 V70 349395-999999999 Maybe the fix we all noticed and on BarrySharp's car a complete shock was replaced (at least claimed by his dealer). Jarmo might help!!! |

RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
It is interesting that a dealer in the West Country had there Demo S60R wrecked in a very unpleasant accident only a couple of weeks ago when being driven by one of their salesmen......no other party involved.
My understanding is that Volvo UK would not sanction the rebuilding of the vehicle which has had to be cut up. Maybe there is something behind that accident that relates to this condition. Regards, Don.Norchi. |

RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
The guy might just have been driving like a ****, but there's no denying that if the suspension was faulty in some way then it might have contributed to the accident or at least caused it to be worse than it might have been.

RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
Whilst I wait for the dealer to book my car in for the software upgrade and wheel re-alignment - one area I am going to do some playing with is that of tire pressures. On my old Honda S2000 a couple of PSI either way of the recommended had a very marked impact on handling - I wonder if the S60R has the same trait.
Volvo recommend either 35PSI all round for single occupancy or 39PSI all round for multi-occupancy and 'fuel economy' Anyone out there have any comments or experience of tire pressure settings on R cars ? Thanks, paul |

RE: S60 R Suspension Problems
Thanks, have seen this and some other threads on this topic on the Swedespeed forum - have pointed my dealer to them and they have taken on board the need to upgrade the software to fix the knocking noise, check the alignment for the stepping out issue and also fix the buzzing gear lever issue at the same time (hopefully!)
