Want Roof bars for my C70 Coupe but they are the same as the ones for S40/V40 96-04

do you mean the ones that go the length of the car or from side to side?

i have a set of v40 roof rails

I'm after roof bars that screw into the roof bar fixing points and go side to side not roof rails that go front to back down each side.

I never realised the roof bars fitted the S40.

Do they fit into the roof strips, or do they clamp on in another way?

Roof bars, Yes. Roof rails, No. I have a set of roofbars in the boot of the 1.9D in case I ever need them. You unscrew the 4 plastic round thingys and the roof bars bolt in there. Takes less than 2-3 minutes to fit them
