Default 2017 XC90 Running Boards

Hi all,

In the process of buying a used XC90. My current model has the running boards which my children find very useful. Dealer has quoted £1280 to fit new illuminated running boards the new car.

Are there any recommended alternatives? I do like the look of the new running boards but price is eye-watering!

Would be good to hear of suggestions and photos

Many thanks

They are not very functional on xc90. People find they do not help much as not deep enough but do make trousers dirty. The consensus is they are a waste of money. Can also do search on swedespeed

Default Shamelessly bought for the looks 😀

I love the looks, but I do use them to get. Ok for roof box loading and unloading also.

He has them on his current XC90 so I think he feels they are worth the money.

Mk1 xc90 is all functionality. I’d have it too. In mk2 it’s all looks and negative functionality - all the downside of having to step over them and not being able to step into them because too shallow. So I would rephrase from not worth the money to would not want them for free.

I've got them. Bought from dealer and got a couple of hunderd pound discount. They are useful for kids and elderly. I've not had the issue of getting my trousers dirty. You need to get into the habit of using them once installed. If you behave as if you haven't got running boards, then you are in trouble.

They look amazing at night with integrated LED lighting

If i was now ordering one, i mean a XC90, i would definitely install them. Not because of getting trousers dirty even if it would help prevent it, not because of kids or elderly, but precisely because of a design taste and at night they get illuminate.

Just for clarity, the running boards light up only when getting in and out of the car. They are not on constantly.
