It is a big heavy car with a good amount of power. I don't expect miracles.

If fuel costs are the biggest worry then buy a C30 1.6D DRIVe
Not complaining about fuel costs but would like to know why figures are so far away from Volvo's official ones

Because Volvo (and other manufacturers) don't use realistic conditions to calculate fuel consumption (like drive on the road for example).

A good rule of thumb is, look at the urban consumption figure and that's what you'll get. Anything better than that is a bonus.

The "official" figures are for one thing only , to compare one car against another in identical driving conditions , ie. on a computer rolling road , not for a recommendation of what YOU will get ..

Understand where you are coming from but my last three cars have all managed to achieve (or come within a gnats whisker of) the government combined figure. Current wheels are Freelander 2 (2.2D) at +51k miles achieving 37.2 mpg on fill to fill since new - gov combined figure is 37.7mpg so quite happy with that.

I'm in same position as blaze591 (original post) and looking the V70 2.0D, if I could achieve an average of 45 from that I would be pleased, and that follows my rule of thumb, gov combined figure less a couple of %

hello to everybody

reading this thread it seems that we are living in different worlds. i transform all your mpg in Km/L. someone get 16 km/l other 14 km/l,someone want to do at least 20km/l. Now, or my v70 is faulty (paying attention i get 12,2 km/l) or i don't know. what i'm sure is that the computer car is exact and driving at 13o km/h it figures 11km/l.

can someone of you do this test: drive at 80 miles in drive and check the instant consuption, then put the fifth gear and check the consuption. in my case it decrease of about 1 lt/100km. very strange!

bye

Last tank of fuel - 869km - 65.44l = 7.53l/100km OR in non-napolean - 37.5MPG

OR

Volvo claimed figure = 7.4l/100km

Not bad

hi

absolutely very good. i don't know if I'll ever get close that result, 32 mpg it would be very good for me. the consuption still should improve since I did just 5000 km now. i hope for a better result in the future.

ciao

I am upto 21500km - it does slowly get better.

www.spiritmonitor.de to see how you compare to others.

Additionally - if your town performance when the engine is warm is still poor - get it checked out by Volvo - I had to have an oxygen sensor reset on mine.
