Just cuts out

Has any body else had a similar experience,
Twice in the last few days my 97 S40, when approaching a roundabout,
has just cut the engine, then finding it difficult to steer with no
power steering and franticly trying to restart the engine and brake at the same time. Any Help or Hints would be great.

I'm afraid I can't offer any help or hints, but in answer to your question, yes, I have had a similar experience in my 98 S40 T4. I have a long running saga of trying to get my car running correctly, (T4 rough acceleration thread), and on this occasion the car had started misfiring badly, shortly before a roundabout so I wasn't approaching quickly, and had an easy stop. When I hit the clutch, the engine just died as you describe, but it restarted easily and ran normaly (well, normal for this thing!)for the rest of the day. I have had one or two near misses, where the revs drop way down then bounce back, but only one actual cut-out. I've also had 2 or 3 spells, each lasting around a week, where something like every other day, the car takes several attempts to start, it fires then dies, like it can't hold an idle.

Fortunatley since posting this message the car has'nt
cut out, shall keep fingers crossed.

Still 1 or 2 cut out does'nt seem much compared to your probs.
