Default Ignition Light for a facelift 2.0L GLT

Hi Folks...does anyone know if there should be a light around the ignition switch on a '95 2.0L GLT? If there should be, mine has never worked but there is a green ring around the switch. Thought I'd ask before I take all the steering wheel surrounds off to see. Thanks Peeps.

Mines got a green ring around it too and it lights up when I unlock the car. Handy in the dark

Pity the blower switches and right switches don't light up (I'd imagine they should do...). Personally I wouldn't dare take my dash apart for fear of the 'rattles'.

Default light around the ignition switch

Hi,

I too would be interested in how to get at the bulb behind the ignition as mine dosen't seen to work.
As for the bulbs behind the heater panel as I was kindly informed by a recent reply :-

To re new the bulbs is very easy just pull off the three control knobs!!!and the panel behind just teases out with a small screwdriver and you can see the bulbs.

A very easy fix with no 'rattles'

Thanks for your replies, chaps. You've inspired me to take the panels off to have a look. It tells you how to do it on page 12.12.23 of Haynes with a picture number 6.24. Cheers.

Having relaced the bulbs behind the blower switches several times I can verify that they really are easy to replace. If you use something like pliers to pull the switches off remember to use some wadding to prevent damage to the switch!

As for how you replace the bulb around the ignition ......... ask me another!!

Thanks for the info, I'll have to give it a go when I get round to it

I know it was a pain when I was trying to adjust the air vent flow when I was giving the air con its monthly exercise & I couldn't see what the hell I was doing lol.

Default Ignition Switch Light

Hey, guess what?...I've got a green light around my ignition switch now! First time ever (how sad is that!). Its not too bad a job..the steering wheel has to come off (care needed if you've got an air bag, refer to Haynes about locking the slip-ring with the stowed screw) then the lower shroud can be removed to expose the bulb holder. Thanks again for your replies guys, cheers.

Default How to change the Ignition bulb, the easy way

"You've inspired me to take the panels off to have a look. It tells you how to do it on page 12.12.23 of Haynes with a picture number 6.24."

Well this weekend I thought I'll get it sorted out, I unscrewed the cross head screw that hold the lower steering wheel housing and saw that there were two locating pegs that hold the upper and lower housings together, pushed them both in, but the Lower part wouldn't come down.

Got out the Haynes Manual (I am an Engineer so I don't need instructions )

EEK...Haynes said .....Remove steering wheel,

After much thought, well Five minutes, I decided as the steering wheel housing was fixed with two cross headed screws behind the steering wheel which are just visible when the steering wheel is turned, I got a long thin flat headed screw driver (cross head was just too thick) and with the steering wheel turned to the right I managed to unscrew the screw closest to the Ignition barrel, which allowed the lower housing to drop so that I could replace the bulb.

These five minute jobs get longer and longer.

Thumbs up

That's the sort of thing I would have done rather than take the wheel off! There's always a way round these things and you found it. Well done for doing it and for posting it on here for others to see and learn.
