Default Injector bolt stripped thread

After months (almost) of running like a dream with no warning lights and freshly fitted new tyres.....

A cloud of diesel mist appeared in the engine bay along with a chuff chuff sound.

Onr of the bolts holding the injector in was missing (found it on the engine tray)

Tried to refit it, even tried a new one but it just spins. Close inspection and it looks to have stripped the thread (out of the hole not the bolt)

Is there an easy fix here?

Helicoil insert will probably fix it, but it's a specialist job (unless you have all the tools and a set of inserts...)

Cheers

I agree, its a specialist job. If you try it and make a mess of it then no one will want to work on it.

Happy to let the garage do it, just glad it's fixable without a massive strip down.

Definitely get a specialist to do it as the exact same thing happened on my s60 d5 about 8 years ago and even after the helicoil it pulled out and wouldn’t seal.

It ended up having a new head fitted to sort it so fingers crossed it gets sorted for you.

Have it done professionally. My xc70 d5 caught fire when one of the injectors shot out of the head while driving in Spain. We were lucky to survive

Rather than Helicoil , which are very good without doubt , try the following
https://eshop.wurth.co.uk/Product-ca...SNDYh63vITVEv9

They create a stronger mechanical repair , Mercedes cdi engine have this issue & these inserts are a far more effective method of repair . Before any one leaps on my back about helicoil repairs , it is using the right tool for the job

Hi
Interesting, they look very good and I can see why they would be better and stronger in this situation.

Will try and remember them for the future.!!

Whilst Time-Certs are better, Heli-Coils are plenty good enough for this application. Cheap and easy to use, you're looking at half hour labour charge from a garage max.

I think you would be hard pressed to get this done in 30 minutes. A helicoil should do the job ok but, to do it properly the rocker cover will need to come off. The injector goes through the rocker cover before bolting into the head. Although it can probably be done down through the hole it will be a lot more difficult to do and also to ensure it is at least flush with the head surface and seated properly. It will also need a good clean and possibly a resurface of the sealing washer seat face, new sealing washer, new bolt and new spring clamp.
