Default Plastic oil filter housing

My '99 V70 has the paper filter and plastic housing with the 16 flat edges.

Will I be able to get the housing off using a strap, or a chain perhaps with a cloth round it to protect?

Or do I need to buy a proper removal tool? They are only about £10 but I don't know whether I need an 88mm or 86mm.

It would be easier just to use a strap, but will I get it off?

86mm is the one you need. Far superior to a strap and so much easier to use.

Both my V40 and C70 have the same size filter - 86mm. I bought my cup from pfs and it is marked S60/V40 86mm. At the time pfs did not list it for the C70 but it fits mine. I can only comment on my own experience.

I bought mine from ebay from a parts company, listed as compatable for my car.
I still have the invoice it was described as 88mm.
I haven't measured it but it is physically stamped with '86mm' and fits perfectly.
