Default V70 Cat back exhaust

Hi,

I have a V70 P1 170BHP V70 classic, (March 2000) W112 SPW
It fits the 1999 year model. I need a cat back exhaust and struggling to find the right part number or supplier to order from. Has anyone had to do this? It's original exhaust 21 years old and now blowing. Don't want to spend a fortune, Fast fit reckon they could do it for £400 which is pushing the envelope for the value of the car.
I asked my volvo dealer for a part number and price but got nowhere.

Thanks Alan

Which engine do you have? 10 or 20 valve?

Recently fitted a Klarius VO211V to my V70

Just logged into Klarius looks like it's the same for 10V and 20V

which has led me to this from Poland

Thanks for replying by the way, and where did you purchase your exhaust from?

Alan

I had to replace an exhaust on a 2000 P1 (v reg) B5244s2 engine and it was a nightmare; bought two exhausts that did not fit despite being promised they were correct. eventually gav up and bought from a volvo dealer which was also a problem becuase the exhaust is two parts, a middle box and a back box that are pasted together with a slip joint at the rear wheel.
Initially they sent me just the front box for an eye watering amount of money and then after some detective work decided that the second rear silencer section was required for a similar amount (i am very grateful to them for covering this cost, the total would have been more than i paid for the car). The exhaust lasted exactly two years before every single joint failed due to rust. having a quick google the part numbers i believe were 31372159 & 31372156 if that helps.
the two that i bought initially looked very similar to the ebay linked picture but the problem with them is that were too short to clear the back of the car but too long to manouvre through the back wheel frame part where the joint should have been, i had to grind off the welded hangers to even have a chance of getting it to fit which isn't ideal.
I would suggest you have a good look under the car and have a good understanding of what is required, if you have to route it through the frame at the back wheel then there is just no way a pipe that reaches the back bumer will fit through, it will have to be in two parts that fit together.
In the end i bought my own 3/4" 304 parts and taught myself TIG, well worth it compared to what i had to pay to get a proper exhaust that actually fitted and lasted only two years.

This should fit but you will need a new tail-pipe trim or taken from the old system, if you can get it off
If you doing it yourself, using ramps and axle stands, getting the pipe over the rear suspension & spring can be a pita...easy on a lift though

Run this search phrase >>>> V70 P1 170BHP cat back exhaust <<<<< through your search engine and you will be presented with numerous alternatives.

Failing that contact Tomasz Gerlach in Poland, the quality of the supplied products is very good, brilliant prices too. A complete catback system for my P2 2years ago was £110, though price will probably have gone up by now.
I think they may stopped advertising in the UK due to on-going carriage/transit problems.

If they can supply one they'll get back to you very quickly - the parent company is Ace Gerlach Tomasz Gerlach, website is https://gerlach.auto.pl/ translation into English is available via a button on the page (in Chrome) - fill in the form on the page re your car and they will identify the correct system - hope that helps.

Thanks Alan
I paid £380 for mine recently from a local independent exhaust fitter, so £400 isn't a long way off the mark, the question of the economics of paying £400 for this car or binning it and trying to find a good replacement is one only you can decide for your situation.

Thank you all,

I appreciate the replies and the variation is interesting from the fit and forget to the pain I suspected of buying parts and not fitting. Clearly Volvo are buying in sub quality from the original fit just to fill the parts bin. TIG weld fabrication sounds an interesting option but probably not ready for the learning cuve yet (even though I have a TIG welder) .
I will fit some new rear springs as the bottom is getting a bit saggy, if and when I do it myself. I will get it done just needed some guidance, I'll ponder and make a decision, time on my side it hasn't fallen off and not making horrendous noise ..yet.

Thanks Again Alan

Mine's a 1999 N/A V70.

I've played this game, mentioned in previous posts. Stock mine's a two-box system. I backed into a low-kerb. Damaged, I replaced with a single-box Walker effort. Noisier, and lasted 2 years. The Walker system is tinny junk.

In hindsight, the stock part lasts forever. I'd only broken the rear section. I would have been better finding a used item from a breaker, and cobbling that to fit.

Mine's a keeper. I had a custom-made twin-box system done in stainless. If you can justify it, at £450 it wasn't much more than the after-market offerings, and will outlast the car.

My notes:

End silencer for the 2-parted exhaust system.

Model 2000 Volvo introduced a 2-parted exhaust System to lower the exhaust noise of C70, S70 and V70 Petrol engines without Turbo. This Exhaust system has also been offered as a retrofit solution for the Volvo 850. This system consists of a main silencer (1019254) and an end silencer (1019255).

One part System is:

Volvo: 3531971, 8631006, 9142516
Bosal 290517 or 290-517
Walker 18275
EBERSPÄCHER 34.608.87

Two part System is:

Middle is:
Volvo 9470337 / 31372159
Walker 23047

Back is:
Volvo 9470338 / 31372156
Walker 23051
