Looking for an xc90
Hi guys ,
Anyone selling an xc90 that would consider a px ? Might be thinking 2.5t or t6 but also may consider diesel I have vgc Volvo v70 se been maintained by a local Volvo specialist (Hutton bros) its very low miles for a 2003 77k with full history all extras for that year on this , it's the 2.4 170bhp model been unbelievably reliable sounds great does what a Volvo should Only negatives it has 1- alarm service required press the button disappears 2- a couple of the wheels have some small bubbling around the studs 3- drivers wing below indicator has some small bubbling ( I put the blue chip stick on this and not seen) was always going to sort this but never got round to it not bad just being honest |

TBH, stay well clear of the T6, gearboxes are serious woe ..... but if that's your bag then go on, but be prepared for rebuilds at every 60k'ish approx. Plenty of info here have a search.

As far as I'm aware the T6 engines are fine its just the gearbox they mated to them from GM are made from eggshells. Hopefully some T6 owners will comment.

T6 is a lovely engine, but as said the gearbox is pants.
The engine itself is so unstressed in standard form and has masses of instant torque, as the turbos are so tiny there is absolutely no lag. Sadly though, that's what kills the gearbox. It does like a drink though, and in reality is no less thirsty than the V8 which I have now. Maybe even slightly worse, as the T6 has a 4spd 'box with loooooong ratios compared to the V8's 6spd

Depends on your situation to be honest. The vast majority would argue not, me too if I'm brutally honest.
I've heard of gearboxes lasting as little as 40k and they're very expensive to buy and replace. I looked at a company in America who make uprated internals for them, as there are loads of different cars over there running the same GM gearbox. Sadly, the cost proved prohibitively expensive. I have a V8 now and it's a peach of an engine. Thirsty, but I knew that before I bought it. Don't rule them out of your search. Pretty bombproof from my research, only the alternator can let go as they do on all models at around 130k, but it's a pretty major job on the V8... Mine's currently on axle stands as a result!

I've seen companies offering a pick up drop off service inc a rebuild/recon gearbox on the t6 for 1500 with warranty on the job also , thought that was good really and there seems to be plenty t6 xc90's around for not a lot with duff gearboxes , 40k in my personal car would be longer than I would see the car lasting last year I did 4K in my own vehicle
Have seen a v8 online recently but 8k for a car I don't often use seems maybe too much ? |

£1500 is bloody cheap, especially when you consider that getting the gearbox out and back in must easily be an 8-10 hour job, even with a 2-post lift!
One thing to be wary of potentially - I was speaking to a fella who had an exchange 'box fitted, rather than his own reconditioned, and he said it simply never worked properly no matter how many trips to the dealer's for recoding or updates. Must admit though... I am starting to consider a T6 again as a work hack. (My previous T6 was an S80 and unbelievably managed to get to 130k without any gearbox problems at all)
