If that's a measure of his standard of work/ethics i wouldn't trust him with any brake work!

"Ahhhh, yeah, sorry about that, the pads were in the wrong way round and i hadn't bled the system........"

Lol.... yes I get where you’re coming from... in fairness he was embarrassed after giving the job to his junior 😳... I’ve used him for over 20 years on my classics which include 1976 Porsche 911 and Ferrari Dino gt4 and countless others... he’s always been reliable and honest etc, think he was overworked yesterday as he’s working on a suffixA Range Rover and Maserati at the same time.

Basically a series of eliminations? An intelligent, professional diagnosis is not a case of, keep replacing possibly faulty parts until the problem goes away. That's a very expensive lazy way of saying 'I don't know but try this'.

Especially if the parts are incorrectly fitted!

Was also thinking worth checking what distributor you have fitted.

The correct caps have a half moon cut out on the edge to match the screw for the low tension lead.

Default update

so timing been adjusted (it was slightly out) timing set as per manual instructions. Coil seems to be operating correctly as do HT leads and the new plugs (all firing correctly) carburettor looked at (diaphragm good, suggest possible change of needle valve, couldn't look in float chamber as worried about not having replacement gasket....the car starts, idles and drives ok....not quite as good as before, still feels something holding it back, Ive driven it for an hour with no chugging or stalling, it feels ok underlay ie uphill and tbh its never been great going uphills (always felt underpowered or needing another gear.

Im going to use it local over the weekend and see how it fairs. Might order a carburettor service kit etc.

thanks
