Xenon bulb replacement
Been getting flickering lights on the drivers side for a few months now. A few days ago I noticed it was not working and a notice on the dash saying "dipped main beam failure". I turned the lights off and on again and it's worked fine since. Today I got the message again. I think its time to change the xenon bulbs.
Iv done some research and the Phillip's ones are around £70 each bulb. Has anyone had any good experience with less expensive ones? £140 on bulbs is just too much for me right now. Thanks |

£91.48 delivered for a pair! not sure how long this offer price for 2 bulbs is going on for though. not sure if they are right for you mind, haven't had bi-xenons go personally yet. Can't really comment on cheap bulbs, never had to change bi-xenon's personally, I know as far as H7's go I will only buy the Philips extreme vision, they lasted years in my last H7 Volvo, used to change bulbs every 6-12 months before trying them. |

That site does have a search utility by make/model. Check also you owners manual and maybe remove the old bulb?

Cannot speak to actual Volvo installation of xenon lighting but on a previous car I fitted an after market conversion kit which worked very well in projector housings. The bulbs were very cheap but I did notice that they did dim after a couple of years. However, since the original halogen bulbs where no better than a candle on a windy day, even the slightly dimmed xenons kept a smile on my face and were similarly cheap to replace.

Took the existing lamp out.
It's an osram 66142 35w D1S. Iv looked online and you can pick up one for £40. (£80 a pair) I'm not sure how they would compare to the Phillip's ones |

If it was me I would stick with Osram or Philips. There's a lot of horror stories regarding cheap unbranded xenon bulbs frying electrics, ruining headlights etc but like I said stories! Me I'd stick with branded and pay the extra just for piece of mind.

Osram Xenarc Nightbreakers and Philips Xtreme Vision are the best in terms of quality and light output. Pricewise shop around but reckon on £60-70 each from a reputable seller - beware of fakes!

Is there actually a difference between the osram d1s and the osram d1s nightbreaker?
