Default Tailgate failure to close and lock.

Hi, I recently bought a brand new xc60 and it is displaying an intermittent electrical fault. From time to time, the electric "Close and Lock" button on the tailgate fails to produce the intended action... the car just gives 3 beeps! The alternative button which just closes the tailgate does still work. Also, the "footswipe" function frequently fails to work. Does anybody else have any experience of this fault?
The dealer has had it back for a week now with multiple attempts to reproduce the fault, but even when they succeeded it did not register a fault code that would steer them in the right direction to a solution!
Any tips very welcome as the dealer seems unable to progress the issue! many thanks.

The only time I've experienced the 3 beeps is when I've pressed the close & lock button without the key in my pocket; if you're certain that you've always had your key about your person when the fault occurs then it suggests to me that there's a problem with the keyless receiver at the back of the car or the key itself, which could also explain the lack of foot swipe activation.

Yes, I definitely have the key on me at all times. the dealer have tested the switch, but perhaps not the receiver... They say that Volvo won't allow them warranty time/parts to go any further unless the car's computer has a fault code logged on it; it's maddening as they can see the problem occurring but no code gets generated! I've had the car back now after a week of testing - they want me to submit a video of the fail next time it happens!

I have a new V60 and this happened to me today i.e., got 3 beeps and tailgate didn't close. So I thought okay I will close it by touching the handle, but that didn't work either!

Then I realised what had happened, I had got out of the car but the ignition was still on, turned it off and checked the boot button and it worked.

Maybe the same for you?

Is the key in the same pocket as your phone? This causes the same problem for me.

Don't let the dealer fob you off - just get a video of it not working as intended and ask them to explain to you why they're choosing to neglect their responsibilities under the Consumer Rights Act.

Happens to me as well, if key Is in pocket furthest away from boot lid. I know what it is now as it’s happened a few times so I just place key nearer boot lid and everything ok. I guess it’s todo with the distance from the rear key sensor, as with the boot lid open you are standing quite a way from the car interior.
