Default Aftermarket sub and amplifier v70 07

Hi all,I've been given a active sub and amp to boost the bass up a bit. Hu 650 headunit as standard. I assume I will either need a din to RCA for the output, then positive and negative for the battery. Or tap into rear speakers and use the remote off the 12v supply in the cargo area and put on a switch.
What do you recommend which is easiest plus I need to be able to remove sub easily if required.
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks

The HU650 uses either it’s own internal amp OR the Volvo amp under the drivers seat, depending on the fit at time of build. You may already have an Amp fitted? Maybe you have checked already? Not sure about running a sub with it though. Apologies if you already know this.

I have a spare Volvo amp and the cable that runs from the HU650 pre-amp output (round din socket?) to the Volvo amp and then the speaker cable goes back up to behind the HU.

However, I am not sure if your car would have the power lead for the amp under the drivers seat. Saying that, Volvo wiring harnesses often cover all eventualities, whether they are used or not depending on the spec. Worth a look under the carpet with the drivers seat pushed all the way forward and in its raised position for ease of access.

For example, I have found the same with the centre speaker on the front dash used with the HU850. Often, even if the centre speaker isn’t fitted, the cable is still there but plugged into a blank speaker. So it’s an easy upgrade with centre speakers being plentiful and cheap on flea bay.

I haven't got any wiring under drivers seat no speaker in the centre of dash and sounds like no tweeters in the front.

I am pretty sure the HU650 doesn’t have the ability to run a centre speaker as there’s no option to change the settings in the menu, hence why your car might not have a speaker fitted in the dash. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if the dummy speaker still had a cable going to it. Maybe the same for the tweeters, but you would have to check. If the cables are there, then an upgrade to the HU850, with an AMP and cable would be possible. However, you would have to find the power cable for the Volvo amp under the drivers seat or provide power yourself. I can take a photo of the power cable, etc on my “spare” 2007 S60, which should be the same as your V70. Saying that, the HU650 sounds pretty good I think, either with or without the Volvo amp and standard speakers. The HU850 has a greater number of speakers and they are better quality, so I believe. Of course, the V70 has speakers in the rear pillars too, which the S60 doesn’t have. All good fun playing around with it all though.

WARNING! Make sure you disconnect the battery first if you are taking the HU in and out as can invariably mean disconnecting the Climate control, which puts the Airbag light on the dash and will need resetting by a Volvo dealer or specialist.
