mines got this problem now and for the life of me i cant understand how to get it back together, please help

so do i have to strip it out to get it back together properly??

No need to detach the steering column, just lift the outer rubber 'jacket' and see if the spring ring seats correctly, otherwise compress and remove it. It's a bit annoying to work with this spring because of the access, and also the two end spring bends - where we grab it with fingers, has to sit at about 1 or 2 o'clock on the floor if I remember well, it has more place at that position
