Brake Control Module failure - warranty ?
Hi
After getting several dash warning lights come on at once whilst driving I took my 2015 XC60 D5 to my usual Volvo dealer. Diagnostics show a failed Brake Control Module as the cause. Quoted £1100 for part plus 3 hrs labour plus diagnostic charge, so with vat close around £1900 total. Car is 4 years old, 40k miles and fully dealer serviced. I've asked dealer to pursue claim with Volvo although car is out of warranty. Has anyone on this forum has had success doing this before please? Any info welcome - would be handy to know before getting Volvo's response. Surely parts like this should last longer than 4 years. Thanks in advance

My experience with goodwill claims is mixed... 100% contribution from Volvo on a replacement EGR cooler, 50% on the EGR valve and 20% on a rear screenwash pipe leak that resulted in a £500 diagnostic and repair to underdash CANbus connectors. But last week Volvo declined to offer any goodwill towards an £800 quote I got for oil leaks from my 'rocker gasket and end cap'. All at Shewsbury Volvo, who have a direct computer link to Volvo UK to request goodwill. My car is still less than 5 years old

If you don't make any progress with the main dealer I can highly recommend RM Motors in Batley. At that sort of money it's probably worth a second opinion and a quote.

The volvo standard labour time for changing the Brake Control Module on the XC60 is 1.3 hours , ( operation number 59301-2 ) ask for a breakdown of their costs ..

Warning lights on mine were SRS airbag, ESC, ABS, Active Headlights and City safe. All came on at same time. It's been with dealer a week and they let me know today that its fixed and ok to collect.
They said fault was a short circuit on Brake Control Module and a further fault on SRS system. They involved Volvo HQ with the diagnosis as it was difficult to locate the fault. Total cost £1955 of which Volvo are contributing 50% despite car being 4 1/2 years old. Maybe helped that I have had it from 1 yr old, bought from Volvo dealer and always Volvo dealer serviced. Hope yours is less expensive !

Hi thanks for help montyboy1 you have been really helpfully.
I have not gone to volvo yet as mine is out of warrenty same as yours i have a XC60 2014 Auto Lux Nav. My faults are with lots of sensors displayed in the message menu. 1 SRS airbag service urgent 2 Active main beam temporary unavailable switch to manual, 3 Adaptive cruise control service required 4 collision warning service required 5 driver alert service required 6 headlight system malfunction service required 7 BLIS and CTA service required 8 ESC service required. The only other warning lights on are the airbag symbol, anti skid and Active bending light these illuminated. These faults come on straight away when the car is started, car drives perfectly. I have had faults cleared but return straight away.. |

Hi Bellaxc60.
Your best option might be to bite the bullet and pay £99 diagnostic charge at a Volvo dealer which is what I did, they also needed additional hour to find the fault as Brake Control Module. Then of course there is the repair charge to pay... Expensive these Volvos. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
